Financial Counselling & Capability

Kempsey Neighbourhood Centre is fortunate in having a professional and qualified team of financial counsellors available throughout the Mid North Coast.
Between them the team, has over twenty years’ experience in the financial counselling field.
All financial counsellors are registered with FCAN (Financial Counsellors of Australia Network) and undertake regular training and supervision to maintain their currency.
Mid North Coast Financial Counselling operates throughout the Mid North Coast from Grafton to the Great Lakes. Our financial counsellors live and work in the areas they service so are uniquely aware of local issues and familiar with local communities.
Financial Counsellors are based in:

- Macksville
- Kempsey
- South West Rocks
- Kempsey Correctional Centre
- Port Macquarie
- Wauchope
- Taree
- Wingham
- Forster
- Grafton
Financial counsellors can assist if you:
- Are having problems with debts that you cannot pay
- Have been left with debts from a past relationship
- Are struggling to pay debts due to a change in your circumstances – for example: death of a spouse, separation, unemployment.
- Are over committed financially and cannot see a way out
- Have a state debt recovery fines and want to undertake a work development ord
Anyone can find themselves in financial difficulty. Our counsellors will not judge you or shame you if you are having problems. Instead, they will work with you to find solutions that work for you.
Financial Capability Workers:
KNC also has a financial capability worker. The role of the financial capability worker is to work with individuals and communities to build financial resilience, better understand financial matters and ‘skill up’ around money and money issues by providing workshops on:

- Budgeting
- Scams & Traps
- Credits
- Interest free loans
- Contracts
- Effects of media outlets
- Internet & phone banking
- Saving
- Payday to payday living
- Cheap jewellery and craft making
- Cooking on a budget
- Shopping on a budget
The financial capability worker can also assist people who may need some help budgeting, need some support in negotiating a payment plan for example, an overdue electricity bill, or would like some general support in sorting out their finances.
