Kempsey Neighbourhood Centre

Financial Counselling & Capability

Finance counselling;

Kempsey Neighbourhood Centre’s Mid North Coast Financial Counselling team provide a free, non-judgemental, confidential and independent service to those not managing well financially due to debt or some other issue affecting their financial situation.

The financial counselling team brings a breadth of knowledge and experience to its work. All our financial counsellors are members of the State Financial Counsellors Association of NSW (FCAN) and the national association, Financial Counselling Australia (FCA) and through those organisations have access to ongoing training and advocacy in regard to today’s issues, impacting the financial soundness of Australians.

Our financial counsellors work throughout 6 local government areas (LGAs) along the coastal area of NSW from Tea Gardens in the south, to Coffs Harbour in the north. They live and work in the areas they service so understand the local issues.

Some of our financial counsellors have lived and worked in areas of natural disasters both on the coast and in inland NSW.

Others work with people experiencing the impacts of gambling both on themselves and on family and friends.

Financial Counsellors are based in:

Financial conunselling;
  • Forster
  • Taree
  • Port Macquarie
  • Kempsey
  • Macksville
  • Coffs Harbour

And outreach to many surrounding areas including: Gloucester, Tea Gardens, Wauchope, Bellingen and Urunga.

Financial counsellors can assist if you:

  • You have unaffordable debt.
  • You’re not sure how to manage your money.
  • Financial circumstances have changed or are about to and you just need to talk to someone about what happens next.

They will work with you to explore the best options to suit you and address the debt issues and will explain the impact of the choices made. Where they are not able to assist you to get the outcome you hoped for, they will explain why they can’t and if appropriate, will refer you to a service which may be better placed to assist.

There are many circumstances why people get into financial difficulties, whether it’s not being able to pay an electricity or phone bill or when a small business can no longer operate or for one of many other reasons when our non- judgemental, financial counsellors, may be able help.

Appointments can be made to see a financial counsellor in person or via the phone or Zoom; the choice is yours. We are now able to provide phone or Zoom appointments out of hours for people who work.
